5 Problems of Hard Water
Hard water has a high concentration of minerals, including calcium and lime. You may already know it affects your hair and skin, but did you know it can cause even more problems? Here are some of the issues hard water causes
1. Dry Skin
Dry skin is just one of the issues found in homes with water that is not treated. When you shower often, the minerals change your skin’s pH balance, making it look and feel dryer. You may notice a buildup that looks like your skin is flaking.
2. Scale Buildup
Homes with untreated water have an increased risk of scale buildup, especially on faucets and sinks. There are companies that make products designed to combat this type of unattractive limescale. However, a greater issue is the buildup that occurs inside appliances that include your washer and hot water heater as it causes them to lose their efficiency.
3. Water Stains
The most common place you’ll see hard water stains are below your faucets where the water touches the enamel or porcelain. It can look like spots and range in color from white to red to dark brown. Even routine cleaning won’t stop the stains from forming.
4. Frequent Break Downs
As the this water moves through your pipes, it leaves behind trace minerals that adhere to the sides. If you notice an increase in your need for plumbing repairs, have your water tested and find out if it has excessive minerals.
5. Faded or Bleached Clothing
If your clothes look faded or bleached after you wash them, blame your water. The minerals act as a bleaching agent and pull the colors from the fabric. They may also cause some materials to feel itchy or rough against your skin.
